Knights and their armor

Many different kinds of armor were made in medieval times. As time went on new on new discoveries and designs helped protect many knights. The making of new weapons increased the need for new armor. The most basic kind of armor was chain mail. Chain mail was made out of small metal links that were formed into a jacket like covering for a soldier. When completed the chain mail weighed about thirty pounds. Some problems that often occurred with the chain mail was that it got really hot in direct sunlight and sometimes rusted. So a protective covering called a surcoat(a cloth cover) was put over the mail to p


As more time went on a scales were made. Since the knights didn't want to be hurt, they decided all parts were vital and that's how we get a FULL suit of armor. Next the chain mail skirt is tied on to the armor, then the padded breastplate and back plate were put on the knight, proceeding that, the vambraces and gauntlets that protect the hands and arms were put on. Plates covered up vital parts of a man. Knights often wore a padded coat under the armor to soften blows given by enemies. So armor did have some drawbacks but saved a knight's life quite a few times. To put on a full suit of armor would take about an hour with two people working on it. The only was to kill a knight according to a foot soldier, was to knock him off his horse and beat him to death. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**None.
