heart of darkness
Have you ever tried to put out a fire with a bucket that had a hole in it? If you have then you’ve found out that it does not work. This is one of the examples that you will find in the book “Heart of Darkness” by Joseph Conrad. Marlow, the main character in the book, tries to figure out exactly how he could put this fire out with a hole in the bucket. What he is really trying to decide is how you fix something once you have destroyed it. The country of Africa is being destroyed and parts are being taken over, Marlow wants to try to find a way to stop it or maybe even to fix it. Marlow feels that he is a part of the countries problems because he is in the country. In reality Marlow has nothing to do with the problems at all. He takes this job that his aunt helped him get, and went right to the problem, right in the middle of Africa and the Congo, to try and play some kind of sa . . .
For some reason he decided to go up the very large hill and when he got up to the top he stood there , and thought that he was closer to heaven so maybe he would be cleansing himself for all the things that he had done. How do you define darkness? Every body has experienced sadness and happiness in their lives . Balfor I just wanted to say thank you for being such a wonderful teacher, I really enjoyed you classes I will miss you. Society now days doesn’t like to take responsibility for their own actions. That does not mean that they carry around darkness for every bad thing that has even happened to them. I don’t necessarily see how he could think that he was any part of the problem just because he was from there. I wonder if they ever stop to think that maybe we wouldn’t have so many wars and countries wanting to destroy each other. Joseph Conrad makes it very known that he likes to use symbolism in his work and although this piece was a actual experience of his he did a wonderful job of distancing himself and making it a work of fiction. We try to distance ourselves as much as possible so that we don’t have to make things our problems. I admire people that feel that they want to help others even though they know that they aren’t getting anything in return. I hope you have a wonderful summer and take care of Janet! I don’t agree with Joseph Conrad’s statement. All of your life experiences are what makes a person who they are.
