Dominique Dawes
I decided to do my report on Dominique Dawes. She has been one of my favorite gymnasts since I was little. I have used to want to be just like her. I was in gymnastics for 7 years and then when I was left to land on my head in middle of a back tuck I decided I would quite gymnastics. I still regret quitting though I can not do most of the stuff I used to be able to do. Dominique didn't return to gymnastics until April of this year because she was determined to make this years Olympic team for her attempted third Olympic team medal. She had perfected landings had not fallen off once and landed perfect on her dismount but still only got 4th. In 1993 she was the world championships silver medallist for bars and beam. Since Dominique had really only been in training since April she didn't really have all the hard tricks as the rest of the competitors. She has won the 1995 Arch McDonald award, the 1995 Henry P. 1994 team world championships silver medallist, 1994 national champion for all around, and 1994 world champions' event finalist. Iba Citizen Athlete Award, which is presented to two outstanding athletes who have demonstrated good citizenship. Dominique's teammates and coaches all call her "Awesome Dawesome". 1992 Olympic bronze medallist, 1992 national uneven bars champion, and 1992 world championship team member. She was also a finalist for the 1994 AAU Sullivan Award, which recognizes the USA's top amateur athlete. The 19996 individual event world championships bronze medallist on the beam and finalist on the bars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. I even thought that she herself would put more of a challenge into the routine. She had a great routine on the balance beam except the judges' thought that she had lacked in difficulty. In the 1996 Olympic games she became the first African American on the Olympic gold medal team, and also the fist African American to win and individual event also. In the 1994 Coca-Cola National Championships, wining the all around and all four events, which is the first gymnast to accomplish this feat since Joyce Tanac Schroeder.
