Reason for the fall of the Roman Empire Historians believe there are several reasons why the Roman Empire fell in the year of 476 AD. Such reasons are the fall of the economy, the moral decay of the people, the wither of the army, the lack of government leaders, the over extension of the empire itself and finally the spread of Christianity. It is my pinion that the reason the great empire fell is because it overextended itself, and because of that the rest of the threats had an easier opportunity to overtake Rome. Why the Romans wanted all that land is a question I have, if they were said to be so smart and wise why then would they not see the consequences of having too much. Well most of them did and the Roman gods were no more for a large part of the population. Having all that land to control is a big task to come by. Upsetting as it was the government and army had by then lost most of its power and was not able to control citizens that were once so loyal. because where ever they went was either by foot or boat. These new ideas inspired the public and gave them new hope; hope to start a better life for one another. ot of ground to cover especially back in 476 AD. The people began to believe in a new form of government and a new religion. Because the empire was so stretched out, the government could not police it's own people. The population of the empire was vulnerable to threats, attacks and new ideas, which proposed a problem of the loyalty of the people to the empire. Christianity told the lower class what they wanted to hear. Once the change attitude the Roman Empire could not stand a chance. They were told that all men are equal in the eyes of the lord and each of them would be saved if they choose to become Catholic.
