Stress
As you know, stress affects each and every one of us. It makes us sick, it makes us mad, and it makes us all around crazy. So what is stress? Stress is a physiological and psychological response to a condition that threatens or challenges a person and requires some form of adaptation or adjustment. Which means almost everything in life is considered stress, good or bad. Plus, stress leads to health and many psychological problems, which leads to this question: How stressed are we as people? What I have done is passed out questionnaires called the Holmes and Rahe's Social Readjustment Rating scale (SRRS) to various people. The SRRS is a scale that measures stress by ranking different life events from the most stressful to the least stressful and assigning a point value to each. By giving out 22 of the SRRS to a group of different individuals of different ages and gender I hope to find out whom is the most stressed and what stresses them the most. These are the results from the 22 SRRS I passed out.As you can see from my results, women from the age of 19-25 and women from the age of 25-40 are about evenly matched. Men 19-25 on the other hand, are much more stressed than men 25-40
On the other end of the rope men 25-40 are in the peak of their career so they know who they are. Younger women 19-25 had the biggest problem with Change in school, change in sleeping habits and change in social habits. A large number of the younger women said that they were studying too much to sleep so they spend their free time sleeping so they have no social life. I have already started working on my stress. And on top of that there are a lot of physical changes in the body at this time as well. I think this is because older men have trouble taking orders form other older men. They just let their stress set and fester they just pretend it is not there. Some of the biggest stresses in the life of young men 19-25 are change in work hours, change in residence change in social activities and change in sleeping habits. I was surprised that women matched up because I thought that younger women from the ages of 19-25 would be less stressed than women 25-40. Over all, I felt this assignment gave me a new outlook on my life. Older women 25-40 stressed about marriage most of all, but the funny thing about this is that almost all of the women I tested are not married. I went back and asked some of the people I tested; how do you cope with your stress? To my surprise a number of them said they do not cope with it. I was not surprised that older men were less stressed than younger men because from the age I tested, most of the younger men are in school, they are in there sexual peak and the women there age are not. Some of the people said they take a walk, go to a friend's house or they try to do other things that do not have anything to do with what they are stressed about. One thing I learned from this report is that I have to deal with my stress.
