The Outsiders Characterization

             The Greasers: The Greasers are a gang in a bad part of town where kids go for protection for each other. Greasers are mainly teenagers with greasy hair who fight with their rival gang, The Socials, or The Socs. Greasers looked at Socs as rich, preppy kids with no hindrances in life that cause problems for fun. These two gangs would always have rumbles to see who the "dominate" gang was.
             PONYBOY: Ponyboy Curtis is a fourteen-year old boy, just trying to survive in a man's world. While Pony was a young kid, his parents were killed in an automobile accident. He and his two brothers, Darrel and Sodapop, still live together, but are watched very closely by the state. Ponyboy loves to see movies, he has good grades, and he loves his brothers. Pony belongs to a gang called The Greasers. The Greasers are well known for their looks, long and greasy hair. Pony gets into a fight with a Soc named Bob and is almost drowned to death. While being dunked under a fountain, Johnny, Pony's best friend, stabs Bob to death. The two boys get so terrified, that they hop on the next train leaving town. They stop at an abandoned church where they stay until everything gets under control.
             Sodapop Curtis: Soda is Ponyboy's older brother. They love to hang out and watch movies together. Soda also belongs to The Greasers. He works at a gas station to help pay for his family's bills. Soda dropped out of school when he was about sixteen years old, and he still regrets it. Soda loves to joke around, but he knows when to be tough on Pony to keep him going in the correct path.
             Darrel Curtis: Darrel is the oldest Curtis brother who has to take care of all the responsibilities. He has to work everyday in order to pay the bills. Darrel is very tough on Pony, because he wants Pony to succeed in life. Pony sometimes thinks that Darrel is too tough, but Darrel and Soda think it's t
