             What makes the novel " White Butterfly" a popular one is due to the way it was written. How certain techniques are used in this novel to affect the readers in a certain way. This technique is formula, how a certain system is used to communicate with the audience. The formula consists of two broad categories of elements that can be termed conventions and inventions.
             Conventions are one familiar building block to define the genre's framework. The novel follows the classical detective genre that is subcategorized it follows a 6- stage plotline. An introduction of the detective. Followed by the murder. An investigation of the crime. The announcement of the solution. Then the gathering of the suspects. With the finale of the capture and removal of the criminal. Followed by the plot comes the motifs, the building blocks of each plot. The particular motifs at least used in this story are the "roving finger" and "red herring". These two motifs are used to throw the reader off. To make the reader expect the unexpected. The roving finger is used to point the finger at everybody. It makes the story more exciting. The setting of the story is conflicting meaning it is a bad area very violent, Watts. Enough is said when you here that city.
             With characterization now taking place in this story formula. The character in this story is heroic. Easy the hero, the great detective trying to crack the case. Theme comes into play because it's the good trying to catch the bad.
             Props reaches the audience in depth. In this novel the prop is the name of the story " White Butterfly". Meaning the white girl, who basically was an idiot in the first place who should have killed herself anyway having that job that she did.
