In this book, Chyna was forced to fight with Vess, while fighting against herown inner demons which were constantly coming at her. Chyna had a very hard lifeup until she was able to run away. She had lived through abuse that no one shouldhave to go through. Her mother was not a good mother. She let her child be exposedto drugs, drinking, and murder. Because of this emotional abuse, Chyna is forced tofight with the demons put inside her by the person who should love her the most -- In this book the man vs man conflict was between Chyna Shepherd and thekiller, Edgler Vess. Throughout the whole story these two characters wereconstantly battling one another. In the beginning of the story, Chyna was battlingVess by trying to keep herself hidden from him while he was driving. Later whendiscovered she was there, Chyna and Vess had their first face to face conflict. Inthe end this battle of man vs man was won by the good guy (girl).
They get there after a scary ride courtesy of Laura's driving, and have a nicedinner. Chyna takes one of the attendants car and follows after Vess. She also finds a dead hitchhikerin the closet. Chyna wakes up and Vess forces her to tell him everything , like why she wasthere, where she came from, and much more. along side of the house so that she and Ariel can jump tothe R. Movie Clip: I think the whole book would make an excellent movie, but if I must chooseone scene it would be when Chyna goes into Vess's house not knowing that he knowsthat she is there. Vess kills Paul and Sarah Templeton. Going against everything thathad saved her from being hurt when she was younger, Chyna threw herself in theface of danger to save this poor child. While Vess is checking out the wreck blocking the road, Chyna sneaks back intothe R. They live in Chyna's apartment in San Francisco. Vess kills Jack and Nina Templeton ( Laura's brother and sister-in-law).
