             What is it that causes people to be gay? There are two possibilities: A person is either born gay or learns to be gay. It has recently become the "style" to dissect gay men and lesbians to find out what causes their emotional and sexual orientation towards members of their own sex. Researchers have been able to locate the genes that are responsible for conditions such as Huntington's disease, cystic fibrosis, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Given this, several scientists believe that the "gay genes" will soon be discovered. Homosexuality is not genetically inherited or something a person is born with, rather a learned behavior that is encountered through the environment. This has been proven through all of the research accomplished regarding the genetics of homosexuality. In many cases the research contains samples that are inaccurate or bias. Three cases conducted by Simon LeVay, John Bailey and Richard Pillard, and Dean Hamer, have proven that their thought that homosexuality being genetic was false. The media has also caused society to believe that homosexuality is genetic. The media has been announcing to the public of America for quite a while that researchers are on their way to discovering a "gay gene". However, that is not true, the media has been giving the public false information in regards to homosexuality. Determining what leads to homosexuality is a controversial issue that is being faced in today's society. Finding a definite answer to this astonishing question would put the minds of many people at rest.
