The great leader military Gaius Julius Caesar was well known for his talented speaking abilities, but many people don't recognize his thirst for power. Julius Caesar was born on July 12, 100 B.C. His father, also Gaius Julius Caesar, was very blessed with politics and had his own share of public office. Not much is known about his mom, Aurelia Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar was born into the patrician class, or wealthy landowners. Both side of his family were of noble descent. These things helped him run for office, for in ancient Rome that heritage was the most apparent in senators. Caesar used his name to boost his campaigns. There have been many important people for Julius Cesar to look up to when he was young, and many important events in the time he was alive. He had a few people to look up to when he was young. One of which was his Uncle, Gaius Marius; his uncle was a big political success. Gaius Marius won consul seven times. He also had a very strong army, which he lead forceful attacks on his opponents. He also made revisements to the recruiting system. This made soldiers less loyal to the state and more loyal to their general. This is a major trend that helped Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar and his uncle, Gaius Marius, became leaders of the populares party and became involved in making it the prominent party. Sulla took over the government in a brief civil war and made it a dictatorship until his Death, in 79 B. Caesar, now a governor, left for southwestern Spain. This move really helped Caesar, for it showed off his extraordinary public speaking skills, which were highly thought of in ancients Rome. In turn for being elected consul Caesar had to try and pass a bill so that Pompey's veterans get land grants. Catiline is then kicked out of the city, while his conspirators were tried. About two year later he got word that Sulla had died and left for Rome almost immediately. He was an also responsible wild beast hunt. Caesar looked ahead and saw if the Senate did kill the conspirators it would turn against them in the long run. Caesar was elected consul from the power of the Triumvirate. Each one of them had been "snubbed" by the government and wanted something. Spending some of his own money, he made the most elegant gladiatorial fights in Rome's history. These offices include the praetor, who made sure that the laws were in forced and courts ran correctly; the proconsul, and the governor of Asia. This was started when Catiline, a poor aristocrat with a lot of debts, ran for consul and lost to Cicero.
