The Pain of Racism
The Pain of Racism Racism is a very painful problem in the U.S. People are raciest in one form or another, the most common is people who look different. One of the first acts of racism was against the American Indian. At first the Indians were the Europeans friends, showing them how to survive in this new land. As time went by, they were no longer useful and in the way. The Native Americans had land that the Europeans wanted and needed for the growing population. So the new Americans pushed the Indians out of the way with treaties that were to protect them and what they had. The Indians treated the new Americans as friends, but was but into slaver and killed. All this started when American was first discovered, even at that time the Indians were discriminate against. If it wasn't for the Indians, we might not have a government based on democracy. Our government was based on the Hau de no sau nee (ho dee noe sho nee) or the Iroquois. The Iroquois had a democracy with other tribes so they could live in harmony. Not many people know that Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson got the ideal from the Indians. How many Americans today would give the Indians credit
The Indians have done a lot more suffering for us than any other minority, but yet we still do not notice. A person always hears how the African's were treated, no one ever hears about how the Indians are treated. For they have made it through hundreds of years of unbearable cruelty from the citizens of the United States and the United States government. On May 6, 2004 a bill was sent to the Senate, "To acknowledge a long history of official depredations and ill-conceived policies by the United States Government regarding Indian tribes and offer an apology to all Native Peoples. The trust was mismanaged and the Indians went to court to get it back in 2000, which is still unresolved. I'm not saying that we should forget about the African Americans, but it is one example of how we as a nation can discriminate against a minority. There is a trust set up for the American Indians in 1897 for reservation land that the government divided up. They have been persecuted, exterminated, scalped, and mistreated, just because we wanted there land. only honored the treaties that benefited the U. Once again they were forgotten, but all the other races and nationalities were included. More than likely if it wasn't for that the Indians would have been forgotten again.
