I have chosen to write my research paper on Martin Luther King Jr. My questionis, "Was Martin Luther King Jr.'s mission worth the trouble he went through toaccomplish what he did?" I will tell about the fight for civil rights, and the injustices. then I will state the troubles Martin Luther King Jr. went through. Finally I will tell aboutthe life and accomplishments of King. The fight for civil rights and racial equality is a very big accomplishment inAmerican history. It seems like ever since African Americans immigrated to the UnitedStates they have been enslaved. This is mostly true, even in the 1790's ninety percent ofthe African Americans were enslaved, the small population of freed blacks had alreadyestablished its own social institutions and had begun efforts to improve the conditions of Most of these movements were centered in cities, which offered more liberty toblack residents than did rural areas. During the spring of 1963 King and his followers demonstrated massprotests in Birmingham, Alabama. Although, there were many criticisms toward Kingfrom the SNCC because of his non-violent strategies. Anotherexample of this is the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, which was formed inNew York. , received national attention and forced city officials to repeal thelaw on bus segregation. King faced anotherchallenge on his road to equal rights and that was the message of self-defense and blacknationalism which was being taught by Malcom X. As the SCLC'spresident King emphasized the goal of black voting rights when he spoke at the LincolnMemorial during the 1957 Prayer Pilgrimage for Freedom. Williams who was the pastor of a local Baptist church, and a founder of Atlanta's NAACP chapter. During these protests many police officers beatprotesters with clubs and fists, and sprayed them with fire hoses. Shortly after King was physically assaulted by whitecounter-protesters in the Chicago area. The following year Kingresigned as the pastor of Dexter Baptist Church and returned to Atlanta, which was thesite of SCLC headquarters and where he could also aid his father as the pastor ofEbenezer Baptist Church. King married his wife Coretta Scott in 1953, and together they had four children,Yolonda Denise, Martin Luther King III, Dexter, and Bernice Albertine.
