HipHop

First off, lets re-classify the genre of music known as rap. People that listen to or compose rap music preferably like to call it hiphop. Today rap is known as hiphop and that is how it will stay throughout the rest of its existence as music. Even though hiphop is usually associated with violence and profanity it does have a message or a story behind it. Hiphop can no longer be thought only as a sound of violence. Hiphop can be positive and good natured it all depends how the lyrics are taken. Basically there are two types of hiphop; the first type is known as gangster rap and the second does not really have a name but it is a less violence-oriented type of hiphop. Gangster rap is what gave hiphop the bad name. It is the hiphop that constantly is talking about killing people and selling drugs to survive in the urban lifestyle. Personally even gangster hiphop is still just a way of expressing thoughts about life and the problems that have been overcome. The less violent -oriented type is becoming a lot more popular as hiphop has proceeded in its climb to not just popularity but a whole new kind of music. The less violence-oriented type of hiphop is based more on the ski

Waking up to gunshots in th!e middle of the night and just flat out dealing with the lifestyle of the inner-city will make someone do anything possible to get out and make something of themselves. Talib is stating the fact that it took a lot of hard work and dedication to become something in the hiphop scene. Guru is saying that in order for our society to keep functioning we have to give back to the kids because they will be controlling the future. Without hiphop there would actually be more violence going on because people would be putting their efforts into illegal things instead of trying to make it on the billboard list. It is not about race but about where people are raised and living. It can be seen in this verse that hiphop is not always bad it can very well be used for good just as long as the lyrics are listened to with an open mind. Is it not the "American Dream" to live a prosperous life and provide for your family. A man by the name of Guru from the group Gang Starr states repeatedly in his song Robin Hood Theory " Now that we're getting somewhere, you know we've got to give back for the youth is our future no doubt that's right and exact, squeeze the juice out of all the suckers with power and pour some back out so as to water the flowers this world is ours, inside my robin hood theory". ll of using a rhyme scheme and coming up with unique and innovative beats. It is everywhere on tv, in any type of music, and all over the movies. When criticizing the violence or profanity in hiphop the big picture has to be looked at. Many people use their talents of rhyming and creating beats to make money to find a better way of life. This is the legal way for inner-city people with a talent to live out this dream. Many songs produced are either backed behind a message or a story to get a point across. Hiphop comes from the city also known as the street.
