Edgar Allan Poe
The famous 19th century American poet,Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 19, 1809 (All Poe 1). He was the son of Elizabeth Arnold Poe and David Poe Jr. (All Poe 1). They were both poor actors who traveled all over the world from theater to theater in the search of the perfect role (All Poe 1). Edgar's father was an irresponsible drunk (AllPoe1). At most of the times Mr. Poe was intoxicated during his performances (All Poe 1). Well as you can tell, Poe's father was not one of the most responsible fathers. So by no surprise, Poe's father left his wife and three kids to strive and live on their own (World 589). She was left alone to take care of Edgar, Rosalie, and William. Edgar was the oldest and Rosalie was on the way at the time (All Poe 4). During the next year after their abandonment, they moved to Richmond, Virginia to start all over (All Poe 1). Only a short time after that, Edgar had a life changing moment. The woman he admired and loved deeply, slipped away from him, his mother (All Poe 1). Edgar painfully, at the age of three, watched his mother pass away (All Poe 1). He witnessed her death as he watched as she passed away coughing up blood right after her last performance (Import 7).
Also in The House of Ushers, he made death to him seem like an obsession. After He realized he needed to get back on his feet, he started to right again and try to return to his normal life style. In the story, the family symbolizes the house. The more he drank, the more he realized he was following in his fathers footsteps, whom he was not too fond of. Allan were so close is that she never had a child of her own and she directed those feelings toward Edgar (Import 9). In order for them to be at least civilized to each other, they enrolled him into the best schools (Import 9) But, Edgar was very close with Mrs. Later that day he passed away in the local hospital. They were married in December of 1836. It starts with a blue room and it ends in a black room. Even though how much he loved and cared for Mrs. Knowing his life and what he went through, explains why each of his short stories was based on life and death. But unfortunately, Virginia died when she was 24, and it just so happened that also Edgar's mother was 24 when she passed away. It was said that "Poe's desperate poverty and the personal tragedy that accompanied his works added power to his works even as they cut short his life and the lives of those he loved (Import 12).
