. The ocean had effected this are because of all the rocks and shells that it had brought
along. It also formed layering in the sand at which the point the water had reached.North
of the ocean and the beach are the primary dunes. The beach is low and the dunes are
higher and usually shaped like a hill. Salt air blows off of the ocean and prevents plants,
trees, and shrubs from growing on the beach and the primary dune
b.The primary dune acts as a barrier to the extreme winds and waves of the ocean. It
also protects the forest from the harmful salt spray, which would keep the vegetation
c. The flora on the primary dune are that there are some high grasses but not many ,
they high/tall grasses are located further back on the beach . The fauna are some
white-tailed deer, mosquitoes, ticks, crabs and other sea animals and perhaps some tics in
d. There are so few plants located on he beach because water from he ocean washes
the plants away plus the salt in the content of the water and they don't have a safe secure
thing for the roots to hold onto. There are plants on the dunes because they are not
effected by this and are able to latch onto the sand.
a.The abiotic differences between this area and the ocean side of the dune is that there
is probably more sand on this side because not as much wind hits it as does on the
windward side. This makes it much drier and hotter.
b. The flora on the lee side of the primary dune is more grass and some little shrubs or
lichens and moss. The fauna may be little rodents and small birds.
a The forest is extremely different from the beach. The forest has many more
varieties of flora and fauna and is shady and cool from the many varieties of trees like the
holly and sassafras. Some of the fauna include white tailed deer, catbird, many turtles,
