The Tempest
Prospero's magical powers are a huge key to him being a good leader. His magical powers helped him take control of many situations before they became to chaotic. He has many powers over his surroundings, many more than any regular mortal has. However just because he has power that doesn't make him a good leader it is the fact that he uses his power wisely and in a smart manner throughout the whole play. Is he actually an ideal ruler though, he does combine his magic with power over the self. Even though we hear the story of Prospero's eviction from Milan from him, the way in which he tells it inspires distrust. Prospero is overconfident, arrogant, and extremely unforgiving. The way in which Prospero ruled in Act 1 shows us that his rule is not always pleasant. Then he overreacts when he tries to learn from bein
Also throughout the whole play Prospero just seems corrupt and vain. Even the masque's job !was to warn Ferdinand and Miranda not to pleasure himself. He seems to have a totally different outlook and persona. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. By the end of the play Prospero combines power over himself and power over the outer world. The only thing that Prospero does that seems to make him a bad ruler is his self-indulgence and self- admiration. He goes to the other extreme and becomes very dictatorial when dealing with the exile and being abusive to Caliban. However, this is only a minor flaw, he truly does care for his subjects he doesn't give up on trying to educate Caliban. The power gave him great power to lead on the island. By the end of the play he is turned into an ideal leader. When he is dealing with them it seems like is more worried about frightening them, then trying to educate them. Then besides the obvious signs of oppression it is also apparent when he seems unforgiving towards Caliban and Antonio. At the end he also seems very selfish when he wishes to tells everyone his life story. At the beginning of the book he seems very dictatorial but by the end the way he is perceived is drastically different.
