The process of installing computer software

             Do you feel yourself start to panic and sweat when you have to download a new hardware or software program on your computer? Are you asking yourself at this time "What the heck is download"? (Download means to install). Are you saying to yourself we keep the hardware in the garage not at the computer? Hopefully you have an updated PC. Updated PC means your personal computer is able to take CD ROMs or DVDs and not the old- fashioned floppy diskettes (these are still used to transfer information to and from computers). That also means you have Windows installed (or the equivalent) and you are not in the DOS mode (that is so 80's). Well, I am here to help. Of course, I am not a computer programmer. My major in college is not in computers. However I do know a little something about downloading hardware and software onto your computer. If you are ready we will get started.
             When installing new hardware or software, it is always best to make sure that there are no active programs or TSRs (Terminate and Stay Ready applications) running before you begin the installation. A TSR or Terminate and Stay Ready application is one that is constantly running in the background on your system, even though it is not visible to you for example screen savers, virus checkers and printer status software. To close all active programs you must first save any documents you may have been working on and close the program that you were in. Next from the Windows Desktop, press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys on your keyboard (at the same time). A Close Program window will appear. Each of the programs will need to be shut down. Caution; press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys just once. Pressing them together twice in a row without ending a task will restart the computer. You will then have to start the process over since all items that were shut down prior to restart wi!
