Urban Sprawl in China
Please send an E-mail if you use or if you have comments or questions: themacman2002@yahoo.comWildlife species threatened by urban sprawl in China China's wildlife population is on the decline with many species nearing extinction. The main cause is a combination of pollution and poaching but the major factor is large-scale land reclamation projects. In our environmental science class we have learned have urban sprawl can force wildlife to move from its natural habitat. The effect that humans can have on the planet is drastic. According to the World Wildlife Fund in China at least 20 percent of all plant and animal speci
The world's average is 10 to 15 percent. Allow me to share this perspective you could fit 500 people into the area that if it were just residential zoning only 50 people would live. Many people who ignore problems like this say the following; Who cares if a couple reptiles or birds are extinct we'll be fine. To give an easier understanding of how bad the problem is; The Shanghai Wildlife Conservation Station found that the number and variety of wildlife species in the city had declined by 10 percent in the past year. So a possible solution to urban sprawl in China? Building buildings taller to allow more people to live in them. China should continue building large complex's for people that are many stories high, so as not to take up a large land area. This situation with China is not an easy one, to recommend a solution. I could be bold and say there are too many people living in China and we don't need all of them. Environmental Scientist have seen the affects of urban sprawl many times, and this problem is a hard one to answer to solve. This is where the concept of overpopulation comes into play. But as I have learned and understand we need to protect animals on every level of the food chain, not just a few. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. Even more shocking is that 156 of the 640 Endangered Species reside in China. The main pressure in situation like this is from the government, not many people take up a voice for the wildlife or the environment, maybe they should.
