Anthrax

Please E-mail me if you use this report or have any comments or questions Themacman2002@yahoo.comAnthrax is a disease that can be traced back to Egyptian times, the disease itself in most cases is fatal, and in the future terrorist's attacks, involving anthrax are highly probable. To begin Anthrax itself is an acute infectious disease caused by spore-forming bacterium called Bacillus anthracis. These anthrax spores are known to survive for decades in soil, and can be lethal if inhaled. The only way of destroying an anthrax spore is to incinerate it. Anthrax is usually thought of as a disease found in animals but it is also very dangerous to humans. The anthrax spores are commonly found on goats, sheep, and hides of animals, in 3rd world countries. The animals contact the disease by eating plants from the soil where anthrax spores are. There are 3 forms of Anthrax Disease: Intestinal, Cutaneous, and Inhalation. Intestinal: The intestinal disease form

The army has required all battlefields personal to receive the vaccine. The effects of Anthrax if released upon a population of people are devastating. One component of the anthrax toxin has a lethal mode of action that is not understood at this time. of anthrax may follow the consumption of contaminated meat and is characterized by an acute inflammation of the intestinal tract. Anthrax as a biological weapon has been researched for 80 years. To put it in very simple terms, a five pound bag of Anthrax could wipe out half of Washington DC. Skin infection begins as a raised itchy bump that looks like an insect bite but within 1-2 days develops into a vesicle and then a painless ulcer, usually 1-3 cm in diameter, with a characteristic black necrotic (dying) area in the center. Vaccines for protection of Anthrax spores have been around since the 1970's. Resulting in death almost 95% to100% of the time. Inhalation: Initial symptoms may resemble a common cold. Death is rare with appropriate antimicrobial therapy. Death from anthrax in humans or experimental animals frequently occurs suddenly and unexpectedly. 100 kg of anthrax spores when released aerosolized in Washington DC by aircraft would, have the same affect as a hydrogen bomb, if not greater. The death toll would be nearly 3 million people. There is no treatment for a person once they have inhaled anthrax spores.
