Kindness and Consideration
I have a strong belief that kindness and consideration are among the most important human traits. It does not take much work to smile and say a simple "thank you", and yet, it can have a positive effect on someone else. To quote an old adage, "It takes more muscles to frown than to smile". In my experience, a simple act of kindness and consideration will always brighten up your surroundings. A little kindness and consideration can make your life a little nicer. The willingness to take the time and effort to be kind and considerate can brighten someone's day and can be personally fulfilling. One day a few weeks ago as I walked towards the door at the post office, I noticed an elderly woman carrying a large bundle of packages, walking towards the door from the opposite direction. I increased my pace to reach the door before her holding it open until she went through. She turned towards me and smiled a silent thank you and continued up to the counter. The gesture had not taken much effort on my part, and even though she did not verbally thank me, her smile was enough to let me know I had made an impact on her day. I was standing in line at the grocery store, when the sound of a woman's
I spent the rest of the trip leaning up against a pole, my feet nagging at me. As I left the store, I sensed that I had made her feel better with only a few words. In each town, there will be a series of small posts, called Kasernes, instead of one great big fort on the edge of the city. It can take a little bit of effort to show kindness and consideration to brighten another person's day; by brightening his or her day, you will brighten your own day and you will feel better. All it takes is a little kindness and consideration. The Post Exchange is another a six blocks from the bus stop. Kindness and consideration works on the same principal as the domino effect; kindness and consideration to others makes them feel better, and they are, in turn, kinder to others. The image of the American soldier in many foreign countries has suffered. voice rose above the usual noises in the store. The willingness to take the time and effort to be kind can brighten someone's day and is personally fulfilling. At the next bus stop an elderly woman slowly climbed on to the bus with the aid of another person. Not very many of us cold afford to have cars, so much of our off duty time was spent on buses, taxis or trains. By giving up my seat, I made the ride more comfortable for the woman, made me feel better about myself and just maybe I showed that not all American soldiers are the same. She confided that she had hardly been able to stop herself from saying, "Don't do me any favors" when that customer had talked about how she sacrificed her hard earned money by shopping at this store rather than other stores.
