A Good Script Gone Bad

             Lorraines Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" was published in 1958 and released as a movie directed by Bill Duke in 1989. He casted Danny Glover as Walter Lee, Starletta DuPois as Ruth, Esther Rolle as Lena, and Kim Yancey as Beneatha. As I Watched the movie, I expected it to be more entertaining and less drawn out.
             "A Raisin in the Sun" is about an African American family living in Chicago's Southside during the 1950's. Ruth is the wife of Walter Lee Younger. She dreams of living in her own home while Walter dreams of being something bigger by creating a business and providing for their son, Travis. They all live in a tight, little apartment with Walter's mom, Lena, and Walter's sister, Beneatha. Lena also wants to have a home of her own to fulfill that dream she shared with her husband. Beneatha faces conlficts that associate with finding her innerself by excelling in college, while her suitors arent encouraging it. The family is estatic as Lena's insurance money from her husband's death comes in the mail. Lena puts a down payment for a house and trusts Walter with the rest of the money for his dream of investing in a liqour store. He thinks it will solve all the families financial issues. On the contrary, his plan suffered them sixty five hundred dollars away. In the end they join together and realize that sticking together as a family is the key to resolving a dream deffered.
             As I read "A Raisin in the Sun" I thought it was a prettry interesting story. I expected to watch it and anticipate what was goin to happened as I did when I read it. I sympathized with some of the agony while I was reading the play because of how it was portrayed and written.
