             "This is the true story of seven strangers, picked to live in a house and have their lives taped to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real." These opening lines best describe the fascinating television reality show, "The Real World". The MTV network is the mere foundation of the numerous reality shows that have aired or are in the process of being aired on television. "The Real World" has proved that reality is as, if not more, entertaining than fiction and that what you see is as real as it gets.
             "The Real World" is a show that can be considered a documentary with a pinch of soap opera action thrown in. Seven young adults, all strangers, are placed in a gorgeous house; this is a rather intimidating situation in itself. Now, imagine going about your day as you usually would in front of several cameras that record every little thing you do. These people do that for four months! These regular people went through several interview processes similar to job interviews to gain a spot on the show. They submit videos and are involved in telephone interviews as well. After watching thousands of entry tapes, the producers choose the seven that they feel are the most interesting and will interact well among six strangers. MTV even airs the application process on their network so the viewers can see how much work and time goes into choosing the best people. It is easy to see how many different people there are in this world by watching their videotapes and their interviews.
             Viewers may think these ordinary people are acting. However, they are acting as nobody but themselves which is the whole purpose of "The Real World".
