US Supreme Court

This article is about Michigan's Supreme Court. Back in October 2000, Michigan's Supreme Court seats were up for reelection. This article explains how important these seats are and how three of the Supreme Court judges are too conservative and don't follow precedent. In the book, it describes how the Supreme Court is the highest court in the state. This means that the supreme court should follow precedent but in Michigan's Supreme Court, most of the decisions are based on opinions of the judges, who are mostly conservative and that isn't right. The election is extremely important because the conservatives hold a 5-2 advantage over the liberals. People should look not at whether the judges are conservative or liberal but rather at if they would do a good job in office. This is not to say that the conservatives are doing a bad job, its just saying that the judges in there now are not consistent and people should look at their options. The conservative judges have been quite consistent about over turning precedent and that has left many people unhappy. This article encourages us to think about the election and about the candidates that are running for the seats. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**I didn't need a bibliography for this one. Michigan is considered the most conservative state supreme court in the nation. All of the cases have goner in favor of conservative views rather than what is right or wrong and many people are upset. The main job of the Supreme Court is to make final decisions on matters of law that are appealed from lower courts. e, an Appeals Court judge and an attorney nominated by the state Democratic Party.
