During the depression there was widespread hunger, unemployment poverty, and economical crisis. It assisted the elderly for workers who reached the age of sixty-five. People lost their jobs because of deflation, there was unequal distribution of wealth throughout the U. The Social Security Act was like an insurance policy. People were unemployed about 15 million people were jobless. People with jobs who made average wages decreased an average of 60%. It did not cover survivors of pensioners or workers who couldn't make contributions. The Social Security Act gave Federal funds to help the development of programs such as vocational rehabilitation, public health services, and child welfare services, with assistance to elderly and handicapped. About 9,000 banks went out of businesses went out of business, which meant 9 million savings accounts were empty and no one had any money which meant families starved and people died. During The Depression which took place from 1930 to 1939, was a time of hard times and despair.
