Buying a Fixer upper
I will always remember my first house. It was defiantly a “fixer-upper”. I remember the first time we set foot in our home. We walked up to the back door and there was an old fashion type wooden door. All the paint was peeling off of it, and the windows were foggy because the glass was always in the sunlight. We walked in the house and it felt like we were in the Brady Bunch Home. All the Walls were the ugly Green and the carpet looked like someone had thrown up all over the place but that was how it was suppose to look. We walked into the Dining room and we saw the Large Radiator on the wall. We couldn’t believe how big and ugly the radiators were, they were definitely going to get ripped out. Then we looked through the rest of the house and found all the other rooms were all the same, but the house was in very good condition so we decided to use some elbow grease and fix it up ourselves. We started with the walls. They all needed painting so we painted each and every one. We started with the kitchen and ended with the living room. By the time we got to the living room there was so much humidity in the house, the paint literally ran off the walls and onto the floor. We couldn’t believe it. . . .
We moved in and took a break from renovations for a while, but when summer came it all started again. The humidity finally went down and we were able to paint the rooms with no problem. After the baseboards were installed and the piping was ready for soldering, we installed the new boiler. It was a lot easier then I had thought it would be. It was in the middle of the winter so we couldn’t open the windows, not that they would open because they were painted shut but that’s later in the story. The Next project after that was totally remodeling the Kitchen. The new boiler was so quiet compared to the old one we had before and it would be much more efficient. We ripped them off the walls with ease. We want to raise the roof and add a second floor, finish off the basement, and some day put vinyl siding on the house. When I pulled the countertop off I found an old hammer and crowbar behind the base, someone obviously forgot where they put them. We had to drape some plastic over the doorway leading into the dining room so dust would not get in to the rest of the house. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Bibliography** . The furnace that was downstairs was big enough to heat a mansion, and when it started up we thought world war III was starting. The rest of the project went great, we put up new sheetrock, a new ceiling, and then wallpapered the whole kitchen.
