The Ku Klux Klan originated in 1865 from the white Southern anger over the Civil War defeat and the Reconstruction that followed. Northerners saw it as a way that the Klan could win through terrorism what they lost on the battlefield. Soon this Klan became the hooded legion whose sacred task was to fulfill the Southern dream. This dream was the old South would live again. People started to believe in this Klan and their ideals, which would ultimately restore the white supremacy to the South. This was the high point of the earliest activities of the Ku Klux Klan. The group was determined to come up with an unusual and mysterious name for the society. The members came up with different names for the ranks that they received. A week later they reassembled and were full of ideas for their new society. Soon after they named themselves the Klan, they wanted to show off, so they disguised themselves in sheets, masks, and tall pointed hats a!nd rode their horses through the streets of Pulaski. In early 1866 the Klan was enlarged with new members from nearby towns, which had major effects on the local African Americans. It wasn't long after, when these threats turned into violence against the blacks that insisted on exercising their new rights and freedom. The Ku Klux Klan originated in Pulaski, Tennessee, nearby the Alabama border. Whether or not they wanted this it was too late to turn it around because they became too powerful, too quick.
