Interpertive Study

             Interpretive Study – Essay by Peter Blackwell
             The themes of the three texts that I have chosen all have something to do with the war.
             In the book 'The Survivor', a man was a multiple survivor of a few incidences e.g. He survived being a prisoner in an enemy's war camp. He also survived drowning when the submarine, which saved him from being tortured and probably killed in the war camp, sprung a leak and began to sink.
             In the movie Saving Private Ryan, a group of soldiers were set the task of going into war, finding Private Ryan and sending him home to his parents because three of his other brothers were killed in combat.
             In the other book Gallipoli two young men decided to sign up to go to war only to be known and to be a hero.
             I chose this topic (the War) because I wanted to find the differences and the similarities between the two texts. Adam, the main character in The Survivor role was to stay alive and he did that well I thought. Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) was the main character in the movie Saving Private Ryan. He was a part of a great cast in the movie. Archy and Frank were the co-main actors in the movie Gallipoli. They both wanted to be known for being in the war.
             Some links that I have found between the three texts are:
             They all have something to do with the war
             Weapons are being used e.g. guns, grenades.
             They all show to people that don't know much about war that it is dangerous and never to think about signing up for the war because you probably will be killed.
             All three of the main characters are either injured or killed in battle.
