Interpertive Study

Interpretive Study – Essay by Peter Blackwell

The themes of the three texts that I have chosen all have something to do with the war.

In the book ‘The Survivor’, a man was a multiple survivor of a few incidences e.g. He survived being a prisoner in an enemy’s war camp. He also survived drowning when the submarine, which saved him from being tortured and probably killed in the war camp, sprung a leak and began to sink.

In the movie Saving Private Ryan, a group of soldiers were set the task of going into war, finding Private Ryan and sending him home to his parents because three of his other brothers were killed in combat.

In the other book Gallipoli two young men decided to sign up to go to war only to be known and to be a hero.

I chose this topic (the War) because I wanted to find the differences and the similarities between the two texts. Adam, the main character in The Survivor role was to stay alive and he did that well I thought. Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) was the main character in the movie Saving Private Ryan. He was a part of a great cast in the movie. Archy and Frank were the co-main acto

. . .

Some links that I have found between the three texts are:

They all have something to do with the war

Weapons are being used e. As I said before, he always kept a cool head when his men had a dispute.

I think the text that was the best written and the best story line was Saving Private Ryan. In the final book Gallipoli, Archy and Frank think it is a brilliant idea to go to war and fight for your country.

In the book The Survivor, Adam Seems to be getting himself into tight situations, e. They all stuck together and I think that was a great part of the book showing the friendship between the four friends. When it felt like all hope was lost, he made the group feel a bit better and gave them enough courage to carry on. I found it quite interesting how if you fill a plastic bag with air and placed it under water, if the pressure is too much the air would escape. Most of the troops wanted to kill him there and then but Captain Miller Prevented this from happening (he would have been killed anyway).

I’m not sure if there is a movie out with this book but if there was one I would probably hire it and get the full picture of the book because some of the parts in the book just slipped in and out my head. In the movie Saving Private Ryan, Captain John Miller’s troops seem to disagree on some things, which can turn out badly but in this particular movie he successfully prevented it happening e. when they sent the enemy walking for 1000 paces to find an allied force.
