King David
King David, " the man after God's heart," was the nagid king YAHWEH wanted Israel to have. Despite his sinfulness, in all that he did, he sought to serve the LORD. This was evident both in his personal life as well as in his performance as king as Israel. The Role of a Nagid King: The king is to be God chosen, a brother of Israel, must not acquire a large number of horses or make people return to Egypt to get more horses. He must not have many wives, or large quantities of silver and gold. He needs to write this as a law and give it to the Levites. David's Family: David had 7 older brothers: Eliab, Abinidab, Shammah, and 4 other brothers that were seen by Samuel but were all rejected as king. David was tending sheep and was called into his house to be seen by Samuel. Samuel saw him and knew that he was the one to be king over Israel, so he was anointed. David is anointed: Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. The spirit was with him from then on. The spirit left Saul and an evil spirit entered. Saul was seeking a good harp player, His servants picked David. Over time, Saul became to like David and David became his armor bearer. When David played the harp, the evil spi
When he knew he asked Saul if he could fight Goliath. David then cut off Goliath's head with his sword. David wanted to know if anyone of Saul's line was still left. Joab sent a woman to go before the king and act as if her sons got in a fight. The thirty are as follows: Asachel, Ebanan, Shammah, Eliza, Helez, Ira, Abiezer, Mebunnai, Zalmon, Heled, Ithai, Banaiah, Hiddai, Abi-Albon, Azmaueth, Elianba, Jonathon, Ahiam, Eliphelet, Eliam, Hezro, Paarai, Igal, Zelek, Naharai, Ira, Gareb, and Uriah. It took nine months and twenty days to enroll the fighting men of Israel and Judah. While David was playing the harp, Saul threw a spear at him, but missed and David eluded him twice. They took Ish-Bosheth's head and buried it in Abner's tomb. Saul agreed but David didn't fit in the armor, so he didn't have any. He made a few mistakes as he slept with Bathsheba and then had Uriah killed. Abner made Ish-Bosheth the new king of Israel. David reasoned with himself and saw this was wrong and ordered his men not to attack. He also made a mistake to take a census of all of the fighting men in Israel and Judah.
