Violence, crime, and poverty ravage our streets and explode upon our television sets. The evening news often broadcasts tragedy and pain while barely touching on the amazing accomplishments of society today. There are so many incredible triumphs of mankind. Because of humanity's response in a time of need, the frequent advancements in technology, and those who perform occupations for the benefit of society, I am proud of our human race.
             It is hard to ignore the natural instinct in all of us to help someone when they need it most. Whether it is in response to something is immense as a natural disaster or as minor as a car accident, we are driven by compassion to reach out to those who cannot help themselves. We often hear of fires that reduce homes to ashes, ruin possessions, and sometimes take lives. After the smoke clears and uncertainty of the future arises, many people will band together in an effort to help a family they do not know. Food and shelter are provided along with gifts of money, clothing, and toys for those who have nothing left. Not to mention the more often occurrences of kindness that we encounter daily. Rarely does a day pass without someone experiencing small car troubles. Sometimes things happen unexpectedly such as a flat tire, a fender-bender, or running out of gas. Just as unexpectedly as they occur, a caring stranger is often found lending a helping hand. Many hands band tog!
