Journey

A journey can be defined differently by different people. To me a journey is an

experience you go through that you learn something from or are somehow changed by it.

I had an experience like this a few months ago, so I consider it a journey because

A few months before school started this year I tried out for a hockey team called

Maine Ghosts. At the time I didn’t think that I had a chance of making the team because I

wasn’t good enough, so at the try-out I didn’t try all that hard. Basically the only reason I

tried out was for the ice time. Now that I think about it, even though I didn’t think that I

would make the team I still should have tried a lot harder than I did because sometimes,

even if you don’t believe it, you may be a lot better at something than you give yourself

credit for and your ability may surprise yourself when you look back on it in the future.

I got on the ice for the first try-out of three. I skated around, did the drills, shot

passed the puck like I was supposed to. I figured I wasn’t doing that bad but I still wasn’t

good enough to make the team, so I only did the drills and thing half-hearted. The other

. . .

We won those two games by a

considerable margin which meant that we were starting to come together as a team.

We won the next two games against two decent opponents.

I still tried out and in the end I did make the team and right now I am playing hockey at a

higher and more challenging level and getting a lot of well needed ice time to keep me in

shape for the high school season. The thing I learned

was

that you should do your best at everything you do because, like the story shows, you may

end up doing a lot better than you give yourself credit for.

This is a journey because I went through a small time in my life doing something

new and different and that I learned something from the experience.

. So after

that

tournament we all left and came back to Maine, we knew that we did good but its hard to

think of it that way when we lost a key game. ts I went to a week later were just about the same as the first one did, I wasn’t bad

but

I was also nothing spectacular. After that he told me that me and my

defensive

partner would be starting the next few games to see how we were. For our very first time together the coach thought that

we did a very good job because we played against some of the best team in the country.

We

won two games, tied one and lost two. One of the teams was

from New Jersey and the other was from Colorado. It still was a very good game, and they were the

team who won the tournament.

I was satisfied with the practice I had gotten and just carried on with my day to

day

life for the next few weeks, until I got an unexpected call from the general manager of

the

team, Coach Mike.

At the end of the tournament I was talking to the coach and he said that I was

doing a

good job and that he liked the way I played.
