"Eureka, Eureka, Eureka"! I've found it," screamed Archimedes as he was running through the streets of Sicily in his birthday suit. Archimedes had finally discovered volume. After about ten years of drawing math diagrams in the sand and dirt, Archimedes had finally discovered volume.Archimedes was born in Syracuse Sicily in 287 B.C. His father Phidias was a famous astronomer. Growing up Archimedes lived in Syracuse for most of his childhood. As Archimedes was growing up, his childhood became very boring. Back then, there wasn't a whole lot to do so most of the time he would play in sand and the dirt. While he would play in the dirt and sand, he would do math problems on the sand with either his finger or a rock. After doing these in the sand and dirt everyday for about ten years, he finally came up with what we now call surface area and volume. When he was discovering these, he would forget to do anything else including bath, eat, and sleep. He had to concentrate so hard to be successful. When Archimedes became old enough to go to sc

Though resources were low in Syracuse, Archimedes found ways to accomplish his mathematics. If it weren't for Archimedes, we wouldn't know as much about our metric system. It's a cylinder containing a wide screw turned by hand. We also would have no idea if things could fit into a certain area because we wouldn't know how to find surface area. If it weren't for Archimedes we would have never discovered water displacement, surface area and we probably would have never discovered volume either. If it weren't for him, we couldn't measure things correctly because we wouldn't have any volume. If it weren't for him, our lives could have been a little different than they are right now. He Became so indulged in mathematics that he would bath in oil so when he came out of the bath, he could do math problems on himself by drawing with his finger on his body and carving out the oil. Archimedes invented this device which is still used today. After the capture of Syracuse during the second Punic War, Archimedes was killed by a Roman soldier who found him drawing a math diagram in the sand. It's set on an incline with the lower part in the stream. He even gave up eating for weeks to try and solve things so it would make our world an easier place to live in because just think, if we didn't have surface area or volume, our lives would be a whole lot tougher than they are right now because we would probably have some other weird way of finding surface are and volume, but if we had people like Archimedes now, we probably would be living in an even easier world because he would probably solve something else too. If it weren't for Archimedes, we wouldn't be able to find surface area. Archimedes accomplished many things during his lifetime. Archimedes was always a hard working man who never gave up.
