The Danforth is renown by Torontonians for many things, from its exquisite cuisine of Greek restaurants to the fruit markets and butcher shops that line the streets. When one delves deeper into the heart of the community it is easy to see that the inhabitants of this area are community oriented and quite friendly. The Danforth is an area that is ideal for those that wish to reside in a place that has the life of the big city with the complement of a small community atmosphere. Although things on the Danforth are not as they were some time ago, there has been a substantial amount of changes over the past fifteen years, and the community is definitely one that is in transition. Through the observations made on the field trip to the Riverdale/Danforth area, as well as with the aid of the information gathered from Statistics Canada and articles about the area, it is prevalent that there are signs of the community being in transition. future there must be an attempt to encourage urban growth through new developments as long as the negative effects on the residents are minimal.

The use of participant observation was constructive as it allowed us to create views and opinions about the research data that we would not have been able to do merely by reading statistics. The census tracts studied were numbers 84 and 85 to the north of Danforth Ave. The are will continue to prosper as new businesses and investors come in and keep the are economically fresh as well as the older businesses that have been there for years, keeping it a self-sufficient community. As the Greeks move to the inner suburbs they will impact them with their traditions, lifestyle and religious beliefs as well as their delectable cuisine and culture. Also they have the ability to pinpoint specific topics and give insight to the issues from the perspective of someone that might have lived in the area or know it well. Who is moving out of the Riverdale/Danforth neighbourhoods? Why are these people moving? Where are they moving? Also, the concept of suburbanization of the Greek community was an interesting topic that I focused on throughout the research, especially during the informal interviews with the residents.
