Arachnophobia for years has plagued different people. It doesn't happen
only to men, women, children, or old people; it happens to all kinds of people.
The statistics do show however that about 80% of all reported cases of
arachnophobia occur in females, and the majority of them are between the ages
fifteen and sixty five. The symptoms of arachnophobia are the severe fear of
spiders. A highly acclaimed movie was made called arachnophobia. This movie
led to many people catching the syndrome. The year the movie was released
more cases of the phobia was reported than any other year in the nineteen
People who have the phobia often tell their accounts of being around
spiders as highly terrifying and even some physical changes. One account was
said as making the person feel a quickened heart beet, shortage of breath, higher
blood pressure, and of course, extreme fear. Physiologial changes have been
seen in some people. A reported case noted that one patient from a Cleveland
hospital, had a heightened metabolism just at the sight of a spider. If scientists
could find out what causes the heightened metabolism, it could have a major
The causes of arachnophobia are generally caused by something from the
patients past that left a bad memory in the head of the subject. Some people
may just be frightened badly by a spider when younger if their parents strongly
tell them not to get near spiders, or possibly a bite that mad them sick, or maybe
even if they knew somebody or had a family member that became sick from a
spider bight. Just merely seeing a spider eat another bug may scare someone
bad enough to give them the phobia. There are probably a lot of children that
will develop the phobia in the future just by merely seeing the movie
