the Green sea turtle

The green sea turtle is classified in the reptile species; their direct order is Chelonia. They can be found all over the world, they prefer warm waters of tropical and subtropical near continental coasts and around islands and, in climates where the water temperature does not go below 68* F. The green turtle is only known to be endangered on the coast of Florida and the pacific coast of Mexico. In all of it's other habitats it is only considered to be threatened. Green turtles are generally found in shallow waters, and they are attracted to lagoons and shoals, that have large amounts of marine grass and algae for their diet. The average size of the green sea turtle is anywhere from 3 1/2 - 4 ft long with an average weight ranging between 350 and 375 pounds. The green sea turtle's shell is somewhat heart shaped, and has an average color of dark brown with hints of yellow and white in it. The male turtle have slightly longer, narrower carapaces than the females do. The males also tend to have enlarged curved claws on the front of their flippers. The purpose of these claws is for the male to be able and grip the female during the mating ritual. The Diet of a green sea turtle consists mostly of marine algae, seaweed

Using her foreflippers she sweeps away the sand around her so that she can create a hollow hole for her to lie in. I believe that the green sea turtles are some of the most beautiful creatures in the sea today. The turtles are very popular for their meat, shells, and eggs. A clutch can contain anywhere from 75 all the way up to 200 eggs. During the nesting season the green sea turtle will travel several of hundred miles to the beach in which they intend to lay their eggs. After she is finished laying her eggs she returns to the sea. They act as if they will be here forever, but little do they know is that the turtles are slowly disappearing from the world, and soon one day there wont be anymore green sea turtles left in the environment, unless people see that changes need to be made. Some of the reasons that the green sea turtle is constantly decreasing in population over the years is due mainly to human interference. Because the green turtle is mainly a plant eating animal they have a serrated jaw surface, which has proven to be very helpful for them in eating sea grasses. Every second or third year, the green sea turtles travel to their selected nesting site and mate. The nesting (or mating) season lasts from June to September, and the nesting rituals occur always at night. After making their way to the surface of the sand the young turtles must become oriented with their dark surroundings (the green sea turtle generally emerges from their nest during the nighttime), before making a rush towards the sea. However the Green turtles occasionally eat jellyfish, sponges, and small mollusks. The one thing that I think humans should do is try to become more aware of what they are doing to the poor little turtles.
