hendrix
My favorite artist in the music genre is Jimi Hendrix. Although it is difficult to choose a paricular song by this great musician, one that I feel that I can closely relate to is known as "Like A Rolling Stone". No matter how many times I listen one of the same versions of this song, it is always just as interesting. Hendrix had a unique style of playing the guitar that no one to this day can begin to match. He grew up idolizing a few great musicians. One imparticularly was Bob Dylan. Bob originally wrote the this song but I personally feel that Jimi improved it. Hendrix was to the era of the counterculture as Elvis was to the 50's, "The King". Here are a few quotes from his Once upon a time you dressed so fine Threw the bumbs a dime in your prime People called said well Paul your bound to fall
In this he talks about someone who once thought he would never need any ones help and would get a kick out of the people who had it hard. The lyrics in this particular song stand out simply because I feel I can partly relate to them. There is a verse where he sings the words, "No direction home; a complete unknown, like a rolling stone. At concerts Hendrix would stretch this song over twenty minutes not even concered with the crowd, he just loved to play the guitar. I feel personnaly that I've somewhat lived this way and that it has taught me a few things through the past few years. He later talks about someone who grew up going to a finner school and never had to compromise. Now that I have moved to Columbia I sometimes feel like my friends have forgotten about me also. To follow in Dylan's footsteps and to try to compare to the original song is a task in itself. " This I can directly relate to moreso now than ever. Jimi says that this guy "never had to compromise with the mystery tramp but now you, you got to realize he's not selling any allabies". I myself used to always feel as if I was better than other people, but once I moved out I soon found out that I was just another ordinary person now saving my dimes instead of flaunting what I had. I felt like in no way was I going in path that would lead me home, and no matter how use to a place I became, it never would feel like home. Whatever mistakes I may make or have made lately are final and no matter what I do I can't change it. Everything was pretty much handed to me until I took advatage of it.
