In the short story “Fall of the House of Usher,” Edgar Allan Poe uses allusion in symbolism and allegory to capture the reader’s attention. Symbolism and allegory often can be implying many different meanings. In the “Fall of the House of Usher” the nobility of the family and the house itself combine to portray allusion in symbolism and allegory, along with the incest within the family.

Poe chose this method of showing the house deteriorating because over time the family has begin to decline as well. The family basically never leaves home, and therefore Poe uses symbolism including the house as part of the family. At the end of the story when the house crumbles into the ground, it does thi!

To conclude, Edgar Allan Poe’s “Fall of the House of Usher” contains use of allusion in symbolism and allegory. The family is in a rich, noble class but instead of going out and meeting new people they decide to stay at home and have relations with other family members. Poe uses the house to show signs of problems that exist among the generation of families that have inhabited the house. The Usher House is in perfect condition for the first couple of generations of the family, and slowly as the family posses more problems for themselves the house begins to decline in quality. Most noble classes of this time go and marry whomever they wanted, but the Usher’s chose otherwise. Of course not knowing any better at the time that after awhile this will cause serious birth defects of the future born children, and later be the decline of the Usher family. o show signs of falling apart, along with the house.

Poe also depicts the family as being incest. His use of showing the family and the house itself declining, and how he depicted the nobility of the family and their incest they shared amongst one another. This also can portray that the Usher House is indeed apart of the family, when the family goes it goes as well.
