Tell-Tale Heart Card Analysis

Poe uses descriptive words and 1st person point of view to captivate the reader and make them feel they are there living in the story. He tells how he has gone into the old man's room every night to stare at the eye while he slept. ents in summary: The madman, claiming to be sane, talks about the old man's evil eye. Style: the madman talking excitedly tells the story. Then he thinks he hears the old man's heart beating and confesses to the murder. Tone: The story is suspenseful and also almost sarcastic. Then one night when the old man wakes up, he kills the old man, chops him up, and hides his body under the floor. When the police come, he talks to them confidently. The heartbeat he hears symbolizes his guilt and insecurity building inside him. Symbols: The eye is a symbol of thought evil, which actually isn't evil at all.
