The second major area of development was a new understanding of the church. Before the Second Vatican the conception of the church was with the pope at the top, under him were the bishops, then the priests, then the members of religious orders, and then the laity at the bottom. There are consequences to this reform one is the decline of prayers which are unfamiliar among young Catholics. The church masses are more leant, letting popular music be played, facing the people letting the mass be more of a monologue rather than a dialogue, and being able to speak in different languages. The Ecumenical movement stated that even non-believers can be saved allowing people to believe what they want rather than what they are forced to believe. Also, in Catholic schools religion was only taught by priests and nuns which now are taught by laypersons to. Before this the protestants were viewed as heretics who were not a part of the church.
Another major area of development was the Ecumenical Movement. People are also able to study more on the theology of god and making a living on there beliefs by studying it in college and making it a profession.
