Wrestling with violence: WWE

             I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. Wrestling is very popular in the Midwest. My friends and I watched wrestling almost religiously from when I was 6 until I was 11. I was in front of the T.V. watching the WWF every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday, and my friends and I rented every pay-per-view. We each had our own favorite wrestler. Mine was Kane. He was The Undertaker's younger brother. He wore a mask because he was horribly disfigured in a fire. I remember my friends and I having "battle royalsâ€" which are an every man for himself match. We each imitated our favorite wrestler who had their own signature-finishing move. Kane's finishing move was the "Tombstone."" This is where Kane picks his opponent upside down and slams them head first into the mat. He then places their arms as if they were in a casket and pins them. We would all try to do our favorite wrestler's signature moves and many times this would end with somebody getting hurt and crying. The most extreme case of this was at my 11th birthday party. My mom rented me one of those giant blow-up boxing rings and I had about 20 of my friends come over. We had wrestling matches all day. My mom said no dangerous stuff but when she wasn't looking I tried to do the "Tombstoneâ€" to my friend Randy Rumbly. It didn't go as planned. He ended up with a broken nose and I ended up with a big bruise on my face. Instances like this happened on more than one occasion. Wrestling had a profound influence on my friends and me. These wrestlers were our role models. I can't speak for my friends but during the time I watched wrestling and for a few years after I had a tendency to have an aggressive personality. I would often get in fights with my stepbrother who was the same age as me. I would also feel the need to show my physical superiority over him.
