Sometimes I feel sorry for people who aren’t able or simply don’t want to get out into the real world. They will never develop some of the key traits that improves the way you do things in life. Many of these traits are learned when you are around others. That’s why I believe that people should be involved in group activities because they teach the most valuable lessons. When you are around people who have similar goals as you, it helps you learn these lessons. The best activities to be involved in are sports and jobs.

Getting involved in sports is one of the best things you can do. As well as learning lessons from a sport you will also get a chance to exercise your body. Football is one of the sports that I have learned many lessons from. Playing at the varsity level in high school taught me leadership, discipline, and it has helped me with setting goals. It took me a while to develop this skill. I used to be bugged when my brother would continuously bother me, but I learned to put the little things aside because the only thing retaliation did was get me into trouble. In order to be a good football player, you also have to be disciplined. I would work with other employees to help them with a task. I send the orders back to the cooks and they receive my message to prepare the food.

Having a job is another group activity that will teach many lessons. I work with everybody else to help get the customers food served to their tables as soon as possible. My work ethic has allowed me to be more efficient with the things I do and I have received several pay raises. Now my teamwork skills are shown in the restaurant I work at.

Playing a sport and getting a job are just a few ways that you can learn many valuable lessons. At work I give help and advice to all of the new employees who are learning the same job, and when working in groups I try to be the one that takes charge to make sure tasks get done. I can see that I have developed these leadership skills today. How much you can learn from other people out in the real world is amazing.
