Non Conformist

Non Conformist in American Literature

Throughout history their have been many non conformist in American

Literature, and it can not be denied that they have had a lasting impact on us and

Many writers were shunned from society for their acts as non conformist, which is

ironic because to be a non conformist means you do not believe in society your the

mainstream world. Although there are too many writers to write about in this one

paper I will share with you the lives and works of three of my favorite writers, I hope to

do each writer justice and shed light on a secret society of non conformist.

The first writer chosen to write about a huge Non Conformist, and later went on

to introduce the world to his Transcendental beliefs. Born in May of 1803 Ralph

Waldo Emerson was one of the most influential writers of all times. Emerson grew up

in Boston and later attended Harvard University, Following in his farther footsteps

Emerson was ordained a Unitarian minister in 1829. “Between man and vegetable. Iam

not alone and not unacknowledged.” that is a line from “Nature” A poem written in

1836 which shows Emerson’s love for nature and life. “ believes in mirac

. . .

To be great

is to be misunderstood” this line shows his beliefs in society and makes me believe

Emerson was man ahead of his time.

Non Conformist in American Literature

I hope this paper has introduced you to a belief which I enjoy very much, the

three writers I have shared with you may have been considered crazy do too there free

mind and non-conformist beliefs, but can be denied genius ahead of there times. Although an acholic and

derived madman, Poe is a legend and there may never be anyone like him. The tiny New

England town tolled the bell for each of his years, Shrouded itself in black, and

prepared for the onslaught of mourners who came from far and near to accompany

Emerson to his rest on Poets’ Knoll in Sleepy Hollow cemetery. ” a direct quote from “The Transcendentalist” written in 1841,

showed Emerson’s new belief in Transcendentalism.

Emerson had a circle of artist from painters to poets form around him to share the

beliefs on non conformity and transcentalism. Edgar Allan Poe was

born in Boston, Mass. ”

That line is a famous line from “ The Fall of the House of Usher”, which poe writes

about a crazy family in an old haunted house which collapses at the end, this piece and

many more of Poe’s work are noted for ironic statements.

The last writer I will write about is most definitely my favorite, called crazy

Edgar Allan Poe was truly “ The Dark Genius of the Short Story”. Emily

officially died of kidney disease. Poe attended the University of Virginia,

which was a more social than academic event. In 1862, in that single year Emily wrote a total of 366 poems.
