America's Dependency on Drugs
The world with drugs is one of the biggest issues today. The government needs to find ways to stop drug use in our country even if it is probably the hardest thing to do. When an individual is caught with drugs, or being under the influence he/she gets thrown in jail for about a year, and if the crime is more intense then the individual gets more of a punishment. The inmates get to shower, eat, work out, play sports and receive visitors. The people in jail have too many rights and get away with too much. People who drink and drive should be delt harsh with and an extremely hard punishment should be given. A year in prison does not do anything, because in a year he/she will be out and they will do the same thing over again. It is really sad to see someone lose their life because of an ignorant person killing them while being under the influence. People always say "I know what I'm doing when I drink", "I know my limit" and in most cases that is not true. In the Ph
That is the way all prisons should be because then maybe people will start thinking twice before they do anything that is considered illegal. As Joseph Califano says in an interview with Paul Screvane, " Smoking should be banned in schools, hospitals, sports arenas, convention halls, theaters, banks, restaurants, and/or other public places" (298). Although second hand smoke is tested to hurt us more than the person actually smoking the cigarette and/or cigar, people do not realize that and do it anyway. People who do cocaine should be considered physcho and should not be walking our streets. Cigarette/cigar smoking should be illegal because it has a severe effect on the person and especially the person not doing the smoking. Cocaine is an extremely severe drug and should be banned from this world. iladelphia Inquire it says that there are 90,000 alcohol deaths per year. These are American citizens, and they're dying, they're shooting each other. Whatever we may think of their merit as individuals, they are part of us. Individuals that use cocaine should be life sentenced in prison. Every time somebody tries to do a good deed for the country, you have the ignorant people saying it's a waste of time and no good. A big issue is if drugs should be legalized or not, William Bennet a current leader of America's "war on drugs" says: It's essential that we win. This stuff is destroying the lives of millions of Americans, and it virtually eliminating the possibility of upward mobility for an awful lot of people. In Malaysia individuals that are caught with the possession of any type of drug, get put in prison with no rights at all. (310) Critics think that his fight against drugs is flawed, fatalistic, hopeless, and bankrupt.
