How did the United States tolerate the Great Society program? This paper will look at what it's real purpose was intended and whether it survives to this day. We will look at whether the program has evolved to meet the needs of poor people. We will look and see if the programs were of benefit to the people or did the program backfire?The Great Society was a program that was put into place by the Johnson administration. It was a program to help the economic situation of the time. It was brought about to end poverty. Then, with the struggle for black equality and the civil rights movement Johnson had to look at how to do away with poverty equally. If we could work on the minimum wage issue, we would see more money coming to the economy. My belief of the Great Society started out without much thought as to how it would cost the working population. The government can turn me down for past work moneys. With programs such as: GED, alcohol rehab, etc. Many people were on the programs through most of their adult life. It was easier to get food stamps and free medical care than to work. With welfare, HUD, unemployment compensation and many other programs available to the poor. Where is the justice for that? If I were to land in the hospital for a week, I have lost money. A family of four can not make it sometimes without help and the government will be quick in denying them help. It made a lot of sense to come up with this solution and make Americans have faith in the system again. , there is no reason to need to get free help and no one should be in poverty. Middle class people were beginning to think about how much they might be paying those people for not working. By limiting the program to two years and having them go to classes during that period, it gave them a reason to go out and work.
