The Matrix: Make Choices to Change Reality

The ultimate meaning of the movie: The Matrix is that reality is dictated only by the choices that we make. Reality is not what it seems, and our cognitive responses, supported by our emotional conviction, can positively affect the physical outcome of life's events - not only for ourselves, but for others as well. When we have allies - friends and mentors - to join us with equal conviction in a shared goal, our potential for positive change dramatically increases. This movie takes place in the future and machines harvest the energy from humans that are immobilized in individual tanks in a massive power plant facility. These human slaves are content in their minds because their brains are wired into the Matrix, a system of virtual reality, where they live out their lives in the 20th century. Neo is one person in the Matrix who is not content with the system and knows that this reality is not what he has chosen for himself. There are people living outside of the Matrix who see the world as it really is, a devastated land controlled by machines that enslave humans, removing any individual control of reality so that they can suck the living energy out of them. These free people are rebels against the machines' slavery system. The

" Fear and doubt are two of the biggest opponents of conviction, the crucial element for successful action. " He is saying that Neo does not have enough conviction and therefore Neo is limited only to trying in vain. If we can control what happens to us, then what would we choose to have happen? This places responsibility on the individual and causes each of us to question the motivations behind our actions, ethics, and decisions, and brings into sharper focus what is really important in life: friends, family, shared convictions, basic survival, and communication. Neo had to choose to be the One before it could be so. Materialism is a big part of our system where it is the goal to work hard enough to afford material objects of luxury and gifts of material wealth are supposed to symbolize love or respect. Although Morpheus admits that everyone who has ever fought an agent has died, he expects Neo to succeed: "Everyone else had their strength and their speed based in a world built on rules. " "What are you trying to tell me, that I can dodge bullets?" "No, Neo I'm telling you that when your ready you won't have to. y free Neo from the battery factory and hail him as a messiah. Cypher's anger at the grim truth of life is fueled by the fact that the girl he loves, Trinity, loves Neo instead. Morpheus explains that most people still plugged into the Matrix are so dependent on the system that they will defend it with their life. When Neo visits the Oracle he asks her if he is the One, and she points to a plaque on the wall that says "Know Thyself. Not satisfied with being an ignorant bystander, Neo begins to open his mind to the truth and to grasp the ramifications of not confronting the lie that is the Matrix: "You are a slave.
