Philos.1

The issue analyzed by this paper is whether or not the United States government should be able to have more control of every aspect in our society. An analysis of this issue is important because as a society, we should acknowledge that the way we are living now is not necessarily the "right" way or the way we are meant to live. In our society, for example, we have many laws and rules that we must follow. Many laws have been created without majority vote or societal approval. These laws are meant and implemented to protect us, but is it not safe to say that each enactment could be contested to see if it was a necessary decree? It would be fair to debate--which is the whole point; we must determine what is right for us and/or for each other. Hospers and Marx have addressed the issue of governmental control. Hospers argues for less governmental interference. Marx, on the other hand, appreciates a more controlling government. My position is that we need a temperate measure of governmental control. This position seems correct because without some control and laws, I believe that there would be chaos. With too much control, however, people are oppressed and creativity is stifled. My opinion is more similar to the position ta

Marx writes, "When, in the course of development, class distinctions have disappeared, and all production has been concentrated in the hands of a vast association of the whole nation, the public power will lose its political character. This quote tells us that history has shown governments continually abusing many societies continually, for whatever reason, and thriving by violating the rights of people. Marx argues that there should be free education for all children in public schools. Hospers believes that if there were no individual property rights, society would turn to chaos. He argues that because there is no such thing as free services, people should not be forced to give their time and effort for nothing. In today's society we are not able to implement all laws; the government implements many without our approval, and these ideas of Marx and! Hospers lead to the conclusion that in society we can not choose every right we deserve because our opinions are different. It should not enter into any other areas, such as religion, social organization, and economics" (Hospers 354-5). Hospers is saying that he does not think it is right to make someone work for free. They would be paid as little as possible but just enough so that their children would be able to join the cycle and work for the bourgeoisie as well. Hospers would disagree with Marx on any issue that allowed a service to be free. This quote means that the government should only interfere when another person threat!ens a person with aggression. In conclusion, people will want what is best for their interest since we all want individual rights. I generally agreed with Hospers more because of his ideals on human rights, but I do think there should be laws to protect people from themselves.
