All sick patients in the hospitals were left there to die, and if they found an educated person, they would first make them confess and later kill them. By 1998, there were few generals in the western jungles, but not nearly as many as there were 20 years ago. And as this horrible event goes back in history, we all still wonder, can something so horrible happen again. However, Hun Sen who was from the Khmer Rouge made sure he was included in the new government.

Sadly, the Khmer Rouge still has an effect on Cambodia today.

Today many people wonder how did this genocide finally end? Well, that’s what I’m going to tell you. This terrible tragedy killed one out of every six people in the country. om starvation or overworking themselves. The Khmer Rouge regime was toppled in 1979, and then pushed into the jungles of the north. The United Nations moved into Cambodia and spent billions of dollars supporting a new government. In 1989, the Vietnamese soldiers started leaving Cambodia. The next year, they had a tough civil war against the Vietnamese Communist’s, but the Vietnamese outnumbered them. Slowly, they started losing more and more soldiers. From 1995 -1996, the Khmer Rouge contained many weary soldiers and they were tired of fighting.
