How did the Christian Church contribute to the development o

Today, Spain is one of the most influential countries in Europe. It is a country that is portrayed as being strong, sophisticated and stable. However, Spain's past and the route in which the country has taken to be where it is now were shaped hugely in the medieval ages. During the medieval ages Iberians experienced great change in with the transformation of Iberia from that of an Islamic culture to one based upon Christianity. Iberian culture fluctuated greatly during the medieval ages and the contrasting lifestyles of the Christians and the Moors led to an interesting mix in terms of society. Most aspects of society changed during this period, though the period in which the moors governed the area has also left some reminders of the time which are still in evidence nowadays. One of the main aspects of society that the Christian Church decided to improve was the education system. The Christian Church observed that the present education system was ineffective largely due to the neglecting of that system by the Moors during Iberia's uncultured past. Initially, much attention was given to the problems of education. The improvements which took place included the creation of schools in the most highly populated Christian areas. Mo

This helped the Iberians to hold a higher status as an educated nation in comparison to that of the previous period of the Moors control of the country. Through this avenue the change to Christianity was strengthened by the introduction of lecturers from Italy and France; both Christian nations. The Christian's were very influential in these and other such areas of Iberia. This can be attributed to improvements in the health service as well as the end to fighting between Christians and Moors. In conclusion, the Christian Church contributed immensely to the development of Medieval Iberia. The hospital movement, in which many health facilities were created, was in full flow during this century. This was due to a number of reasons. This, and other similar territorial alterations, were the first stages of the creation of an Autonomous regions system which is now in place in modern day Spain. The people of Iberia discovered a social responsibility towards the poor, and it was commonplace for citizens to visit those in hospital and offering support. There were also improvements in the field of health care again occurring in the 13th century. Changes occurred in all areas of society; from education to health care, literary culture and of course, religion. The rise can also be explained by a raise in life expectancy in the country at this time. The Moors still held a strong influence in the South of the country for years to come until they were eventually faded out of society. During the transformation to Christianity this increase in wealth was able to improve areas of society like education for example. The hospitals at this time were staffed by the people of the church but did not restrict treatment to merely Christians they also treated Muslims and Jews.
