Hobbit
Actually, me reading The Hobbit was quite the fluke, because when I first started the story up it was only because it was Thursday of the first week on the month and I had to get a novel going for the reading calendar, The Hobbit was just in the right place at the right time. It's funny cause I had originally started to read it in grade seven but only finished the first couple of chapters. I forget exactly why I hadn't liked it then, but had stopped after just a bit. Anyway, I have taken it back up now and actually am QUITE enjoying the read. The story begins in the small home of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, hobbits are small plumb people with hairy feet and round faces. Hobbits are usually anything but adventurers. They are more of the peaceful people that would rather stay have tea in the sun than to go and take a roller coaster ride. Bilbo was having his daily smoke just out side of his hole in the hill, however was somewhat rudely interrupted by a tall and old stranger with a preposterous wish to have Mr. Baggins accompany his thirteen friends on a great crusade. Biblo promptly denies the somewhat ludicrous idea, unfortunately Bilbo had quickly asked the man to come for tea sometime; this way B
The dwarf, as if at home, sat down and made him self at home; twelve more of this type came and only on the thirteenth did his cloaked friend come to join him w!ith the group leader. Caught in the act! Then as the others came to see what had happened to there fourteenth warrior they were each tied up and put away. TolkienAs my second entry on the subject of The Hobbit I am still delighted by the way Tolkien can right both sides of Bilbos personality, one, the way Baggins misses his home in the hill so much and would rather anything than to be on this labouring trip in which he has already encountered Trolls that almost ate him for dinner, Goblins who tried to assassinate the group, and now a slimy froglike being who he can't see cause he is in who knows where with no light to see, two the Took side of Bilbo who wishes to quest on and have a wonderful tale to tell to his children and his children's children. I predict that his fellow dwarves at the last minute save Bilbo before he gets hurt. These killer arachnids are hard foes and even with Bilbos invisible techniques are hard to over come. He caught a snoozing guard of duty and stole the keys from its belt to allow him self to enter the dwarves cells and get them all regrouped. Beorn considers himself part of the "good side of nature" and is all against the Goblins who are a perfect example of BAD nature. This time Bilbo got into the Elf home, where his group was being held captive, and had to move undetected and find out every single thing he could about the Elvin fortress so he could put all his information to form his ingenious plan of escape. Next thing they go and meet Beorf who forewarns them to take the southern path to deek out the Goblins search party. In the woods the group becomes tired and almost looses hope. Thirteen was an "unlucky" number and they wanted him as a burglar. TolkienNow the suspense is rising! Each small sub plot of the story seems to be setting up some sort of HUGE ending, with all the mini conflicts that Baggins has come into and all the new people and new races that don't always get along you would assume that every one will take part in the end, in fact I think that at the end when they have to get the dragon that they will have to all join forces and defy his authority together as one! Now with even a new type of conflict and new race, Bilbo, as I predicted in the last summery, had to make a daring and complex plan to help his friends out of the troubles they have gotten them selves into. Then in the dark of the night get kidnapped by giant Spiders.
