Washington D.C.
"What are the advantages and disadvantages which Washington D.C. has as a capital city?" Washington is coextensive with the District of Columbia, and is the federal district of the United States. It was established in 1865 as the capital and as a seat of national government, a role that today still dominates its existence. Washington is today the core of one of the largest conurbations in the country and is a centre for both national and international politics and diplomacy Washington was created in 1800 as a federal district and was named after the first US president because a permanent capital was needed. Washington D.C. lies in a neutral area (The District of Columbia) and therefore not within any single state in the United States. This was because there might have been inf
One third of its population is in direct connection with the government. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. It is like 2 groups with nothing binding them. 18 millions visitors a year are attracted to the city and it has become a major American cultural centre. It is unwise and unadvisable for a city to rely on only one factor for its survival. The city was conceived as a political, diplomatic and government city, and today still holds that major role. I think that another disadvantage is the fact that the capital of the country is not in the middle but on the east coast. It is divided into 2: the very rich (diplomats and federal workers) and the very poor (blacks which can be measured up to 70% of the total population). Many of the diplomats and politicians don't actually live in the city but in the high class suburban areas and so these commuters needed transport. Washington relies mostly on it being the centre of the government for its continued existence and survival. There are also many little, varied neighbourhoods in the city which each have a distinctive social and ethnic character. At the time Washington was made capital, only the east coast was "America" but now, it being so far from the west presents a disadvantage. Tourism is the second most important aspect of the city's economy. This means that if the government "moves out", Washington's economy will decline considerably.
