A doll

This quote is taken from the tragedy "A doll's house",written by the famous playwrite Henrik Ibsen. In this play we can see the change of events from happiness to misery.as we read the play we see the heroine "Nora" the beloved wife and mother,a nice lady that loves her children and husband so much that she forgot all about her own needs and lived all her life to make others happy just as she has been taught in her father's house. She never thought twice if it came to the future of her family. That's the way everyone looked at her and at every other woman at that time.No one used to think that women are human beings who have their own personalities and needs.
When Nora finds out she's been wrong in living this way all her long she takes the dicission that she must have her life she decides to educate herself first as she is not good enough to be a mother as "Helmer" her husband told her when he found out she's been in debt for years and he knows nothing about it,he gets angry when he finds that his wife is not the doll he thinks he owns.
In this quote "Helmer" is describing "Nora" as a strange little thing who can't keep hold of money and he says that she inherited this trait from her father who -as Helmer says- used to look for money and when he gets it,he spends it so fast.
Helmer seems to be so sure about his opinion about his wife as he thinks she's a spendthrift that can't keep hold of money, this shows us that there's a great misunderstanding between the two of them as no one knows the truth about the other's real personality, they lived in the same house for 7 years then found out they never knew each others and that they are completely strangers. He doesn't know all the suffer she experienced to save his life and how she fell in debt for his sake,he couldn't imagine that she saved most of the money she took from...
